Adult Basic Education

This second chance program for adults is offered daytime and evening for individuals desiring to improve basic verbal and math skills or earn a high school diploma in order to get better jobs, continue their education, and improve their lives.

Each of the programs in this area is designed to meet a particular set of students needs:
   • Adult Basic Education (ABE) enables adults to improve basic reading, writing, and math skills.
   • English as a Second Language (ESL) class helps non-native speakers to communicate in English and to increase their understanding of American culture.
   • General Education Development (GED) preparation is an opportunity for adults who have not graduated from high school to earn the equivalent of a high school degree. The GED classes are free, and they are available at Pioneer Technology Center. A student that is 18 and older can enroll based on class availability. Students can take the GED test at Pioneer Technology Center at any scheduled test time if they have completed the necessary paperwork and have taken an official GED practice test. Requirements for testing are: Oklahoma ID or drivers license and testing fee.

Other Adult Basic Education programs offered are:
   • Work-Based Education with Business & Industry
   • Family Literacy programs with Early Childhood programs
   • KeyTrain instruction in cooperation with adult short-term class.
